FARM INFO
The women of Hingakawa (“Let’s Grow Coffee”) Women's Coffee are both a witness and victim to the 1994 Rwanda Genocide. It was mostly the men who tended to cash crops like coffee, tea and spices. Post genocide, it became clear that there was a vacuum of this workforce because they were either dead, in exile, or imprisoned.

Hingakawa is more than just "growing coffee", it is a resolution to
lock arms and fight social endemics that have crippled and claimed lives of theirbrothers and sisters: poverty and lack of woman's rights.

In Rwanda, equality and reconciliation were not just an option, but a forefront quest. Women coffee farmers were one of the first pillars of society who wholly embraced the trickle-down movement of equality, and the banishment of the archaic patriarchal leadership that women had faced for centuries. They took a risk that is often not given its due credit of the exemplary courage where equality is otherwise still seen as taboo.

The role of women in coffee can no longer be undermined, unnoticed, or gone un-incentivized. We are proud to introduce you to the 961 brave women of Hingakawa Women’s Coffee.
